About Lantern Myths

Old stories, thoughtfully retold for curious readers.

A small light on a wide world

Lantern Myths is made by a small team of editors who want Asian traditional stories to feel welcoming to readers discovering them in English. We are beginning with Korea, with other country collections planned as the site grows.

We write for young teens and curious adults: readers who want an engaging story without losing the details that give it a cultural home.

The story comes first

Our story pages begin with a third-person retelling. Explanations, interpretations, and sources come afterwards. We aim to preserve the sequence and important details of the chosen telling rather than inventing extra events to make it longer.

Traditional tales often have several versions. We identify the one we follow and explain meaningful differences when useful. We do not present a single version as the only authentic story.

What you can explore now

Start with the stories, meet the creatures and gods and spirits of Korean folklore, or see how the old tales live on on screen. New tales are added every weekday.
